The leaves are changing...

Wow, I cannot believe that it is already October!  I haven't posted since August, eek!  We had a busy August and September.  Bob's parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in August so we had an anniversary dinner at The Brewery.

Happy 40 years!

September has been a busy month.  It started out with the start of football season!  Go Michigan State and Lions!  Warren also went to his first Renaissance Festival.  He had a great time.  There were lots of interesting people to watch.  He loves to watch people :-)

The next biggest thing is that Warren took his first steps on Saturday September 17, 2011!!  I have some videos that we took, I'll make a separate post on that one.

We had one last 82 degree day in September so Warren and I headed to Stoney Creek, because summer is almost over and we had to take advantage of the awesome weather.

October has been a great month so far!  Warren is walking more and more everyday.  It isn't his main mode of transportation yet but he is starting to slowly make the change over.  Eating is still a struggle on days.  He has his good and bad days.  His favorites now are scrambled eggs, grilled cheese, mac & cheese, watermelon, yo-yo baby and probably a few more things.  His menu has definitely expanded.  Now when he eats if he doesn't like it, he just spits it out.  Which has been a nice change, he used to gag and then throw up if he ate something he didn't like.  Big positive changes!  He still drinks 20 ounces of pediasure a day. We haven't had a weight check in a awhile, but I think he is about 17 lbs and probably around 30 inches in length.  Bob and I are so in love with him.  He really is such a great kid.  Usually if I can't find him, he will be in his room reading his books. Our month so far has consisted of birthday parties, Warren is one busy little boy!  We also discovered that he likes cake, but then again who doesn't?
Another huge change is that Dr. M (Warren's GI) has discontinued his prevacid!  We have been weaning him since July and as of October 8, 2011 he is off of it.  We are being cautiously optimistic that he will stay off of it and that his reflux is gone.

This past weekend we took Warren to Frankenmuth for the first time.  He tried bites of everything but loved the ice cream at the end the most.

And one last point to make so far, the Detroit Lions are 5-0!!!  Go Lions!

Warren's First Steps!

Warren took his first steps this weekend!  Saturday September 17, 2011, he is 16 months actual/13 months adjusted. He has been cruising along furniture, walls, whatever he can find.  He just wasn't brave enough to let go.  Well this weekend with a little motivation from us he started walking.  He looks so cute when he does it.  Enjoy the videos!

The first one is the very first day of him taking steps and the second video is taken on Sunday, just a day after he started.

Warren's Baptism

Today was Warren's baptism.  We had it at First Congregational Church in Rochester, MI.  I have been attending this church since I was in 8th grade.  It was a beautiful Sunday morning.  The ceremony was perfect.  We then had a small reception immediately afterwards.  We served finger foods and of course had a cake.  It was such a nice time. Courtney and Brian are Warren's Godparents.  I have been friends with Courtney since 7th grade.  I love her and Brian and they love Warren so we couldn't have picked two better people!

Summer is flying by!

It is already August!  This has been the fastest summer ever.  I also have been horrible about posting.  So much has been happening.  Where do I start?  We had our 6 month follow up appointment with Warren's GI on July 12 and the dr completely changed his whole diet. Warren is now on 20-24 ounces of Pediasure and all solids.  He also is finally on the growth charts for weight, he weighed 16lbs!  He is in the 5th percentile so the goal with giving pediasure is to get him up too the 25th percentile.  Pediasure is 30 calories/ounce and before the Neocate was 20 calories/ounce. He loves scrambled and fried eggs, watermelon, bananas, mac and cheese, avocado, cherrios, crackers with butter, ice cream, and anything with butter :-) Every day he gets better and better with textures and learning how to eat new things.  We have his 15 month well baby appointment soon, so I am anxious to see how his weight is doing.  I should mention that his throwing up has gotten so much better!  I have started weaning him off of prevacid.  He was on 1.5 solu-tabs per day and now he is down to only 1 solu-tab per day.  All good things to report on the GI side of things for once :-)

Warren loves to crawl and is getting really fast at it!  This kid goes everywhere!  He absolutely loves being chased around the house.  He will always go and hide somewhere and then laugh and giggle his way while you chase him.  He is pulling himself to stand on everything.  He will walk around the entire living room holding onto furniture now, its crazy how good he has gotten at it.  His favorite toys seem to be cars or things that he can push a button and music plays.  He loves playing peek a boo and just yesterday I caught him playing it with a picture of Bob.  Then when I saw him I asked, "What are you doing?" he pointed to the picture and said, "da-da." He is the best kid ever!  Playing with DVD's occupies his time fairly often as well as opening drawers and cabinets!  This kid is getting into everything and he isn't even walking yet!

Bob had to go to Baltimore for 2 weeks for work. It was pretty tough when he was gone.  Warren and I both thankfully survived.  Warren sleeps in his crib 100% of  the time now and sleeps all night long.  He goes to bed around 9pm and sleeps until 6:30-7:30am. He takes 1-2 naps per day both around 1.5 hours each.  He is working on 3 more teeth.  2 on the top and 1 on the bottom.

Warren went on his first airplane trip to Rhode Island, July 23-July 30.  He did great!  But I will have a separate post for that one.  Other than that we are just doing the family thing, music in the park, dinner, walks around the park, trying to do something every day.  Every morning, weather permitting, Warren and I go for a 2.5-3 mile walk, its a great way to start the day.  Have I mentioned how much I love summer?!?!?  We have some exciting things coming up but I definitely do not want to rush summer by so we are enjoying each day!

The Bauer's First Family Vacation...

We survived our first Family Vacation!  We went to Narragansett, Rhode Island.  A place that my side of the family has vacationed for years.  It was the first time that I have been back to Rhode Island since my mom passed away 6 years ago.  It was also Bob and Warren's first time going and the first time my family got to meet Warren.  We left on my birthday and had a great flight.  Warren did so well.  We fed him as the plane departed and then he fell asleep after his bottle.  We flew into Providence, rented a car, drove to Narragansett, and picked the keys up for our rental house.

The week went by fast.  We started the week by eating dinner in Galilee, its a village inside the city of Narragansett. Galilee is known for fishing, boating, beaches and, of course, seafood restaurants.  We also spent a day in Newport another coastal town in Rhode Island.  Many days were spent on Scarborough beach.  One day the three of us went to Galilee and the Salty Brine Beach, then grabbed some lunch at Chaplins.  It was the most delicious lobster and shrimp that we have ever eaten.  I highly recommend that restaurant, plus the prices are reasonable. We also ate at Aunt Carrie's and went and had ice cream a couple of times.  Our last day after we said our good bye's we ate at Iggy's.  Which is across the street from Aunt Carries.  I have never eaten there.  It was amazing.  Another great restaurant to try!

I think that sums up our trip!  It was such a great week.  I loved seeing my family!  We are looking forward to next summer!

Happy Homecoming Day!

One year ago we brought Warren home after a 45 day NICU stay.  He came home with no oxygen or monitors and weighed 4 lbs 6 ounces.  He was 35 weeks gestation, full term pregnancies are 40 weeks.  It's hard to believe how far he has come.  He weighs about 15 lbs 8 ounces now.  Warren's favorite activities are crawling everywhere, closing doors, playing with cat food/water and he loves putting his toys in or on different things.  I always find his toys in the laundry basket or in random places around the house.  This past year has been incredibly challenging but watching Warren grow has been so amazing.  I love him more than anything, he's an awesome son :-)
